Chanel Resort Collection 2009

There is something just fabulous about Chanel. I think it would have to be the notion of extravagance and couture which was evident at the Resort 2009 show. Simplistic suits in strong fresh shades of black and white were signature Chanel pieces which Lagerfield took to the next level of chic at this show combining the look with contrasting colour statements. Wools and tweed were evident at this collection in the form of both oversized and fitted to represent the effortless element of chic and the amount of sophistication Chanel encompasses. Floaty silk maxi dresses in shades of luxurious navy blues and delicate cream tones contrasted to the abruptness of the textured shift dresses which featured elements of lace, feathers, and patent leather for an edgier ladylike look. The decorative concept of rosettes and the reappearance of the camellia which is Coco Chanel’s favourite flower had symbolic elements which added a sense of luxury to the garments with rosettes sewn whimsically and very romantically on designs whereas on others, the camellia appeared to be a basis for the overall design. Tweeds, feathers, wool, silks, and chiffon were effective fabrics featured in the collection thus producing enough freshness in order to create a new fashion statement without losing the integrity of the signature elegance of the Chanel brand.
