Surprised shoppers were treated to a pop-up catwalk show at the New World supermarket in Auckland's Victoria Park on Thursday, when models strutted their stuff down the aisles in the name of fashion.
Models for New Zealand fashion label Stolen Girlfriends Club left employees open-mouthed as they presented the label's Spring 2011 collection to unsuspecting store 'guests'.
In an environment that's more suited to track suits and jandals, the flimsy clothes worn by leggy models stood out, which is exactly why the unlikely venue was chosen.
"We thought about presenting our new collection in a totally random and public place, we wanted it to be like a 'fashion flash-mob'. It's always a challenge to keep people on their toes in anticipation but I think that [the] show really did surprise," said Stolen Girlfriends Club design director Marc Moore.
Unless they happen to have popped out for some milk and loo roll, we doubt you'll see front-row runway regulars like Alexa Chung or Blake Lively at future supermarket fashion shows, but it certainly raised the glamour stakes in Victoria Park for a while.
